Kingfisher Lodge Trail Race. 5.68km, organised by Prestwich AC.
I entered this trail race, with Phil Wilcoxon running as my guide.
I had contacted the organisers, who were very helpful, and suggested a guide was a good idea. The trail started and ended on a rugby pitch and a bit of tamac road, but the rest was very testing … mud/loose ground/hills/steps/brambles. Without Phil’s help I would never have got around it. 600+ feet of elevation, so a good challenge for the lungs, too.
The facilities at the base camp (Sedgeley Park Rugby Club) were good, but no toilets on the (short) course. The weather was cooler than Saturday, and we both made it round in one piece.
Our time of 57.10 reflected that a fair bit of the trail was too tricky to run (for me). The marshalling by Prestwich AC was excellent, and we got a free Prestwich AC buff and water.
For a £6 odd entry fee, we felt it was well worth it. Prestwich AC are planning more events starting from the rugby club, in the future. Their members were friendly, so I will be looking to go back again.
