On what was a beautiful late May afternoon, thirteen hardy Belle Vue Racers again descended on the village of Wincle to negotiate the climbs and descents of the annual Wincle Fell Race, plough through the River Dane and claim their finisher’s trout. In the event, Ali Alsaadi (54:06) was the first Belle Vue Racer home, followed by Phoebe Wallbank (55:47) and Vicky Smith (58:09). Well done to all runners! Happy days! AT

Coach Lynda’s report:
Saturday weather was ideal for Wincle. Not as big a turn out as last year – but nonetheless a very good race day. The hill, and I do mean a hill, was unbelievable – even the front runners walked up it! The BVR approach was very positive and I must say rewarding.
I saw Ali walking up the hill but on seeing me he did produce a bit of a run and then continued walking ‘the hill’. This paid off though as he stormed through first for BVR – I do think Ali must do some secret training which he tells nobody about? Andy Wood quickly followed, looking a cool as usual, followed by Jason – you really must see the photographs of Jason, his effort and pain were written across his face! Didn’t catch Anthony P. (no club vest?!) then onto Steve M. and Barry.
The women saw Phoebe just behind Vicky on the hill but she managed to overtake and had a very creditable finish. Vicky came through next smiling – that’s what I like to see! Catherine came down the hill to the finish in great style, the best downhill I’ve seen in a long time. This was followed by Anne W. whom I am still not sure enjoyed it!? Next came Julia and you can certainly tell that hard training sessions have been put in. Julia and Catherine are currently training hard for the Tour of Tameside. Onto Ruth A., who also had a great run and creditable finish. Maria H-A. bravely attempted the race not really knowing what was at stake. She didn’t finish but well done Maria.
