Cloud 9 Fell Race

1st March 2015 – Welcome, Spring!
Some would have you believe that there are members of our fabulous runnning community, and Belle Vue Racers no less, who turn up to hard-as-nails races like this with ZipLoc bags at the ready, eager to invest in a healthy and nutritious range of sponges, scones, tarts, pastries, flapjacks, breads, macaroons, muffins, buns and biscuits … even before the race has started!  This finely-tuned athlete can hardly believe it to be true.  Bakers of Congleton, yours take some beating!
Down to business, with many of the expected Cheshire touring partly sadly out injured, numbers were slightly down this year among Belle Vue Racers at Cloud 9.  Nevertheless, it was a crack-team of seven who gathered to take on the very worst that Bosley Cloud could throw at them.  It really was a cracker of a race and Belle Vue did itself proud.
In the event, Vic Walsh (1:14:28) was the first Belle Vue runner to complete the 9 mile course to Bosley Cloud (1125′ ascent) and back, followed by Andrew Taylor (1:16:38), Ali Alsaadi (1:19:29) and Jason Stott (1:20:27).  Vicky Smith crossed the line one minute later as first Belle Vue woman (1:21:28), followed by Annie Hirsch (1:28:06) and Leah Evans (1:32:10).  Well done all!  Brilliant running.
To end, a hugely questionable mid-90s American indie-rock extended metaphor for all that is Cloud 9.  Until next year …
